Business Specific Keywords

It is being increasingly acknowledged that business specific keywords are crucial for the success of an Internet based business in today’s crowded and competitive online marketing space. One of the main objectives of having a website by a business is to make net users worldwide aware of the business. The website, in addition to providing information, must also enable a visitor to enquire about the products and services on offer and facilitate conversions. This can be achieved if well chosen and relevant business specific keywords are included in the website; keywords that precisely describe exactly what the business provides, such as specific product names, model numbers etc.

Business owners having (or planning to have) websites must work to identify business specific keywords that are relevant to their product-market mix and creatively weave such keywords into the website content with direct relevance to the specific web page the content is on. Business websites should not only be user friendly, they must also be search engine friendly. An effective strategy to achieve this when using business specific keywords is to incorporate business specific keywords as search engine friendly naming conventions for web pages.

Business specific keywords are mostly long-tailed keyword phrases.  They may likely reduce general traffic to a business website for organic searches or the display frequency of pay-per-click (PPC) ads, but users entering specific keywords are typically more likely to buy; being in the final stages of the buying decision. Business-specific keywords will also help increase the search engine rankings of a business website; an added bonus!

Write Detailed Meta Description Tags

Many people in the SEO world debate on whether or not Meta Tags are dead… well that may be true for the Meta Keyword Tags (for the majority search engines), but not when it comes to Meta Descriptions.

This is one tag you don’t want to forget. Imagine some one searches for your keyword and your page is listed in the top listing… search engines will randomly choose something from your body of text to describe your site, wouldn’t it be better to have a detailed description that will entice a user to click on that link and visit your page? YES of course! especially if you’re giving away something FREE on that page, that could be in the description.

Another great thing about Meta Description tags is that, unlike the Meta Keyword tag, search engines will consider keywords written in the description to describe your site. This will obviously give you better rankings for those keywords. Also, when your site comes up in the results, many search engines will bold the keywords in your description and title, thus catching the user’s attention, resulting in better click-through rates.

Make sure your description isn’t TOO long (typically 200 characters will do), and also reads well to the user (don’t JAM it full of keywords! it has to make sense!).

Use ALT Text For Your Images

Posted by SEO Info | Posted in SEO Tips, Web Design | Posted on 03-03-2010

ALT or (Alternate) attribute tags on images not only make your website easier to access, but helps the search engines to index your images. This is also great for searches, say if someone were looking for a specific image by keyword and you used that keyword in your alt text, it would be displayed in the results, which is great for rank. Make sure your text is readable and friendly to the user, for example: “This is a picture of Joe Frazier vs Muhammad Ali at Madison Square Gardens during their EPIC fight.”

That is also a good strategy for situations where your images would not load, the text would be displayed instead.

Here are more benefits of good ALT:

  • You will enhance the browsing experience of visitors with disabilities.
  • Increase your page’s keyword density score and relevancy for your targeted keywords.

When editing your pages and inserting images, you will find out that ALT text is actually REQUIRED for all your images.

Here’s an example of how it could look:

<img src=”frazier-ali-war.jpg” height=”320″ width=”480″ alt=”This is a picture of Joe Frazier vs Muhammad Ali at Madison Square Gardens during their EPIC fight”>

Keep Your Content FRESH!

If the radio played the same song all day every day, or the TV only showed the same shows, would you watch or listen to them? I know I wouldn’t. The same goes for the search engines, they don’t really like websites that don’t update frequently or give fresh content. Old content really isn’t bad, but to publish new and unique content would help your site to rank well. This is why blogs rank so easily and do so well in search engines, because the blogger is constantly adding new and fresh content! Think about it… you have certain keywords you want people to find you for, so you make daily posts using those tags.

Do this… go to  Hostgator.com and get their baby plan, go into your cpanel and install wordpress to a directory. Get yourself a nice theme and start posting! To learn more about SEO with wordpress, and to download a great software to make your blog EVEN MORE SEO friendly, CLICK HERE

Use Clean and Human-Readable Web Addresses (URLs)

One easy way to rank high in the search engines for your specific keyword is to buy domains for it. For example: If your keyword is “flower shop in long beach,” use a domain registrar like NameCheap.com to search for it. your website can be www.FlowerShopInLongBeach.com or www.Flower-shop-in-long-beach.com or any variations of it. you could even reverse the words – www.LongBeachFlowerShop.com.

Buying domains like these are what some call “Search Engine Friendly URLs.”  These rank SUPER FAST for your keywords, and often come up before in results before your site is even complete! Just make sure you don’t try to buy domains with TOO MANY keywords stuffed in it, you don’t want it to read funny.

Once you buy your domain, make sure you get hosting. I recommend HostGator, they are extremely reliable. When you choose hosting with hostgator, make sure you atleast buy the baby plan. Its a great plan for only 10 bucks a month (if you pay monthly) and you can have UNLIMITED domains! So imagine, you just keep buying SEO Friendly URLs and have plenty of space for their websites.
